Leaf hopper or jassid

Leaf hopper or jassid

The main symptom of the disease is the yellowing of edges of the leaves and then curling/ tilting of leaves. This symptom is seen because of the entrance of poisonous saliva of the insect into the leaves. With the increase in the intensity of disease edges of leaves bends and then dry up. This stops the further growth of the plant. Along with urdbean the insect damages other pulse crops also to a large extent.

Insect Management

The damage by this disease can be lowered by changing the sowing date. The disease can also be controlled by intercropping with sorghum , sesame and pearl millets. Spray of Insectisides like dimethoate 30 e.c. (1.2 ml/ litre water) or forate 10 gm / 15 kg per hectare will be effective.
