Soil Selection:
Kabuli chickpea is cultivated on a wide range of soils ranging from Sandy loam, loam to clayey loam soils. Well-drained soils are most suitable for its cultivation.
Land preparation:
Deep ploughing is beneficial for proper root development of kabuli chickpea crop, however, soil should not be prepared to a very fine tilth. After harvest of kharif crop, one deep ploughing is recommended, which is to be followed with 2-3 ploughing before levelling the field. The large clods should be broken before field levelling. Kabuli chickpea should not be cultivated in saline soils or regions with high water table, as it may negatively impact the yields.
